Preparing Your Pet for Veterinary Procedures: What You Need to Know
Recommended Tests Based on Age
For pets aged 1 year, your veterinarian typically performs a Vetscan blood test for dogs. Cats undergo tests for FELV (Feline Leukemia Virus) and FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus).
For pets 3+ years old, dogs receive a Vetscan test while cats get FELV/FIV screening plus a CBC (Complete Blood Count) to check for infections, anemia, and other conditions. At 7+ years, both dogs and cats undergo more comprehensive bloodwork including Vetscan/FELV/FIV, CBC, and Profile testing to assess kidney, liver, electrolytes, diabetes, and more.
Understanding Bloodwork: Vetscan helps diagnose diseases like heartworm and tick-borne illnesses in dogs. FELV/FIV tests detect serious viral infections in cats. CBC evaluates infection and anemia risk. Profile tests assess organ function and metabolic health, providing a full picture of your pet's wellbeing.
Surgery Drop-Off and Care Details
We require dropping off pets the night before surgery. Feel free to bring your pet’s belongings like blankets, toys, or preferred food to make them comfortable. Check-in involves signing consent forms and depositing payment.
Important: Cats must be brought in carriers, while dogs require collars and leashes unless in carriers.
